Trafalgar D. Water Law.
The Surgeon of Death.
26.
6 October.
Pirate captain, doctor.

 APPEARANCE
Law is 191 cm (6'3) tall, of slim build, with pale skin. He has short black hair, dark eyes, long sideburns, and a small black goatee. Law generally wears black and yellow clothing. He has quite a few tattoos, including a heart-shaped pattern with a smiling face on his chest, a compass design on his hands, his Jolly Roger on his back, and the letters "D E A T H" spelled out across each finger. Law is often wearing a somewhat puffy white hat with a white brim and black spots.

He carries a nodachi with him, which is a long sword longer than a typical katana. Due to its length, Law generally has to carry the sword on a rope over his shoulder, as it's too long to carry at the hip or on his back (there'd be no way to draw it from a back sheath).

 HISTORY
Law was born in a Flevance, a beautiful country with an ethereal, white landscape that almost looked like snow. In reality, the so-called "White City" was made of a special ore known as "white lead", which had been discovered in the country about 100 years before Law's birth. Flevance had become known worldwide for this highly-prized ore, which was used in construction, cosmetics, weapons, household items, and even in food, and the royal family (and by extension, the World Government) made quite a bit of money from Flevance's new affluence.

When white lead had first been discovered, the World Government had determined that it was toxic. The ore had no real effect when left alone, but once mined and handled, it would build up in the human body and slowly eat away at it from the inside. The government hid this fact in the interest of profit, but over time, the slight build up of lead affected each subsequent generation, until 100 years later, the toxic effects of white lead were finally becoming impossible to ignore. This disease became known as "White Lead Syndrome".

Law had been living a happy life as the son of two famous and skilled doctors, studying hard to follow in his parents' footsteps even at ten years old. He spent every moment studying medical texts and his parents' charts and files, and it was there that Law learned the truth about White Lead Syndrome and his own prognosis - he had only a little over 3 years left to live. Nearby countries assumed this new disease was contagious, and quarantined Flevance by blocking all borders. A war broke out, and eventually, the armies of nearby countries eradicated the people of Flevance. Law watched as everyone he knew - his parents, sister, and classmates - were gunned down by foreign armies intent on stomping out the disease that, in reality, couldn't be spread from person to person.

Law managed to escape Flevance by hiding in a pile of bodies, and he is the only known survivor of the country. Seeing the death and destruction changed him - he was no longer a kind, studious boy dreaming of becoming a doctor, but a scarred and traumatized child filled with anger, hate, and a desire to lash out at others.

Because of this, Law sought out an infamous pirate in the North Blue, Donquixote Doflamingo, and asked to join his crew. Doflamingo took Law under his wing (pun intended) and tutored him, and Law learned combat skills from senior officials of the crew, training in medical knowledge, sharpshooting, swordsmanship, and martial arts. Here, Law also met Donquixote Rosinante, also known as "Corazon", Doflamingo's younger brother. At first, they had a rocky relationship, but things evened out after awhile.

Two years later, when Law was 12, he was close to the end of his life expectancy according to his father's prognosis, and more and more white patches were appearing on his skin. One day, when talking with two other children in the crew, Law revealed his true name, Trafalgar D. Water Law, explaining that the "D." and "Water" were secret. Corazon overheard this conversation and grabbed Law, taking him where they could talk privately. This was surprising to Law, who was under the impression for the last two years+ that Corazon could not speak. Corazon revealed to Law that he also had a devil fruit ability he'd hidden from the rest of the crew, by creating a sound-proof barrier for them to have a private conversation. Corazon explained that the "D" in Law's name was a mysterious legend and those with the name "D" were known as enemies of the gods. He revealed he was only in the crew to take Doflamingo down, and told Law to leave, stay away from the dangerous pirate captain, and seek out a cure for his disease.

This didn't go well with Law, who still wanted to take revenge against the world for the things he'd been through, idolized Doflamingo, and was convinced there was no cure for White Lead Syndrome. At first, Law refused, even saying he was going to tell Doflamingo about Corazon's devil fruit powers and his ability to speak. Ultimately, Law decided not to (as he technically owed Corazon a favor from years back) and Corazon responded by kidnapping Law and escaping on a small boat.

Corazon insisted on taking Law from hospital to hospital, in search of some cure for his disease before he passed away. As Law expected, every doctor they met was terrified of him, convinced that his disease was contagious, and would usually even call for the military to apprehend him. Each time, they'd escape, usually with an angry Corazon causing some property destruction. After many months, as Law's life was dwindling, he developed a close relationship with Corazon, understanding that Corazon truly cared for him and understood him despite realizing Corazon was secretly a Marine (and thus a soldier of the same World Government that had doomed his home country).

Soon, Corazon discovered that Doflamingo and his higher ups within the Marines were both targeting a rare devil fruit, the Ope Ope Fruit, for their own needs. This fruit had immense medical uses, including being known to be able to cure incurable diseases. At this point, Law was in immense pain, unable to stay conscious for long periods, and enduring a terrible fever. Corazon played both sides for information (despite Doflamingo at this point being pretty sure that Corazon was a spy) and pitted the pirates and Marines against each other. He planned to slip in in the chaos, steal the fruit from both sides, and have Law eat it so he could cure himself of his disease.

This didn't go well, and Corazon was terribly injured, but he was able to steal the fruit and feed it to Law. In their attempt to escape, Corazon was able to hide Law in a treasure box, but Corazon himself was apprehended by Doflamingo's crew. Law listened from the box as Doflamingo murdered Corazon, and Law was forced to wait, hide, and escape when the coast was clear.

Law was able to get away, and just before his disease killed him, he managed to figure out how to use the Ope Ope Fruit to cure his White Lead Syndrome by removing the lead that had accumulated in his body. Eventually, Law met three people - Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin - and together, they formed a pirate crew, the Heart Pirates, named, after Corazon, with Law as the captain. Law dedicated the rest of his life to what he called fulfilling Corazon's dream - to take down Doflamingo. He knew this would take many, many years.

Over time, Law grew stronger and gained notoriety. His crew became larger, and they began traveling the ocean in a yellow submarine, the Polar Tang. At 24 years old, Law met One Piece Main Character Monkey D. Luffy, and watched as Luffy punched a World Noble, choosing to start a conflict with Marine admirals for the sake of his friends. This behavior, and the "D" in Luffy's name, intrigued Law. Law had long since come to believe that Corazon had saved his life because of the "D" in his name, so another "D" causing mayhem naturally piqued his interest. At the same time, Law was being recognized globally as a member of the "Supernovas", eleven rising star pirates with outstanding bounties.

Luffy got himself involved in a conflict above his pay grade, and Law made sure to be there to help, taking Luffy into immediate emergency surgery to save his life and dropping him off at a safe island to recuperate. Law didn't do this out of the goodness of his heart - he already had an idea that Luffy could eventually help him fulfill Corazon's dream.

Over the next two years, Law worked towards another ambition for his plan, becoming a "Warlord of the Sea", or a pirate captain recognized for their strength by the Marines, whose pirating activities are more-or-less "sanctioned" by the government in exchange for Warlords agreeing to fight for the government when summoned. In actuality, Law had no plans on doing this, but having the government turn a blind eye to his activities would be crucial later on. He did this by hunting down other pirates, removing their hearts with his ability, and sending the government the hearts of 100 pirates. From this, Law gained a higher bounty and the epithet, "The Surgeon of Death" - although soon his bounty was frozen after he was granted the position of Warlord of the Sea.

From there, Law began to finally put his plan into action. I will write more about this later maybe but if you want to know more there's this whole ass wiki page I can't do this anymore I tried to be brief too if you can believe it. I went over this several times cutting it down. Basically he allied with Luffy as they took down Doflamingo, thus finally fulfilling Corazon's dream, and Law has had to find a new reason to move forward in the world, which now finding out the answers to what the "D" means, which is something that nobody really knows. Well Rayleigh probably knows. No one will ever read all of this so I can just say whatever at this point anyway. Also Law awakened his devil fruit abilities and took down Big Mom in part after learning how to mimic Corazon's ability. That was good stuff. That's basically it, thanks. I can't do this anymore

 ABILITIES
Unfortunately there's an entire wiki page specifically for this, but I want to specifically mention his devil fruit ability, the "Ope Ope Fruit" (short for "operation").

Since having eaten the Ope Ope Fruit, Law has the abilities of "free manipulation" - he can create a spherical "room" (basically a blue film-like force field that is visible to others) and he can then freely manipulate anything within that room. This has a wide range of applications, not only offensively and defensively, but surgically as well. As a trained surgeon, Law uses the Ope Ope Fruit to target opponents making use of his medical knowledge.

Inside the operating room Law creates, he can use his sword Kikoku as a "scalpel" to slice people and objects cleanly apart. The slice itself does not cause any pain to his victims, even when Law removes their organs. (The exposed organ itself, however, is vulnerable.) Law can then connect these pieces in different ways - for example, he could open a room around two people, slice their heads off, and connect those heads to each other's bodies. This would not cause any physical pain to those involved.

Because Law can freely manipulate anything within his room, he can also "teleport" objects and people within the room. This is not really true teleportation, it's more that Law can swap the places of different people and objects within the room. He could, for example, open a room on one side of a locked door that extends to the other side of the locked door and then swap himself with an object or person inside the locked room to gain access to it. He'd need to know that object/person was there in advance, though. He can only teleport within his room, and the room can only be so large - creating very large rooms takes actual time off of his lifespan, and is very draining of his energy.

Under normal circumstances, Law must be inside his room, and it cannot be moved once it has been opened. (He would have to "close" the room and create a new one.) He can only open one room at a time. If Law's hands were restrained, he'd be unable to open a room or perform many of his techniques, since he needs to use his hands to signal how objects are moved.

Like all devil fruit users, Law cannot swim and will sink like a rock in water. He is unable to use his devil fruit abilities if any part of him is submerged in water and will quickly lose his energy in water up to a certain height. (Canon is weirdly vague about this, but probably about up to his waist or so.) This does not only apply to ocean water, it applies to fresh water as well. Falling water, like rain or a shower, does not cause these effects.

Apart from his devil fruit abilities, Law is able to use "haki", which is a "mysterious power" (the wiki literally says this...) derived from the user's spiritual energy. Different forms of haki exist, but Law has been shown to use Armament-type haki, in which the user can use their energy to create essentially invisible armor around themselves, and Observation-type haki, which Law has been shown using to sense for the presence of others around him by feeling out for their energy.
